Mumpreneur Spotlight: Sonja Cresswell
Hi I’m Sonja… mother to Dylan (aged 6), wife to Ian and a freelance graphic designer. My company is Sonja Cresswell Design.
Having worked in the design industry for 10 years, the second half of that in the gaming media industry, I decided to go freelance when Dylan started school a year and a half ago. I’d always wanted to try working for myself and I really wanted to be around to do the school drops and pick ups.
Drawing on my previous experience, I slowly but surely began to build up a client base, many of them start up companies and many many of them, mums in business who wanted a like-minded designer who got it! Let’s face it… when you’re a mum running a business, you’re juggling like crazy, and we work some strange hours. They wanted someone who’d not mind jumping online at 9pm after the kids are in bed for a skype chat about a new project!
A little about what I do… I work on a variety of brands; fitness and beauty, photography and fashion, floral design, online gift shopping, travel, sports betting and gastro pubs. As well as a few corporate companies too!
I particularly love starting a brand from scratch, coming up with a fab new logo and brand, working with the client to get it just right. It’s so rewarding being part of the birth of something new. Below are just a ‘few’ of them!
I’ve a broad range of experience creating and designing online and print promotional and marketing material, banner ads, mailers, press ads, brochures, fliers and large format material; posters and exhibition banners as well as illustrations.
A few examples are shown below!
I have a passion for good design and all things creative. Priding myself on having a keen eye for detail, I enjoy immersing myself in the creative process and working closely with clients on projects, no matter how big or small!
