The Mumpreneur UK Story

The Mumpreneur Team are truly passionate about helping to support other mums in business and are keen to ensure the UK's Mumpreneur Community have the relevant support needed, as well as opportunities to meet other like-minded individuals. But how did it all start?

How did Amanda & Laura get together?
Amanda & Laura first met at a craft fair in May 2009. After realising just how much they had in common, the pair became friends immediately. The following month, they had teamed up to work on organising local Baby Fair's, and shortly after, The Mumpreneur Conference. While they may have only been working together a relatively short time, their partnership is so natural you'd think they'd have been working together for a lifetime.

Where did the idea for The Mumpreneur Conference come from?
Back in June 2009, Amanda was trying to come up with an idea for an event aimed at mums in businsess that was unique. Laying in bed, late at night, Amanda asked her half-asleep husband what he thought. Expecting nothing but a grunt (if that!), she was shocked when he unleashed the idea of The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards. The following day, a trip distributing event flyers soon turned into an intense discussion and planning session between the women in the corner of a dimly lit pub. Just a few months later, Amanda & Laura had pulled off a fantastic first conference with just a few weeks to organise it in!

So where did Mumpreneur UK come from?
It was clear from the success of the first conference that there was a real need for a support system for mums in business. We were pleased to be able to offer this at the annual event, but wanted the opportunity to create a central hub where support could be sought all year around. In the run up to the second conference in 2010, Mumpreneur UK was put together with advice, resources and support, and was launched at the event in September.

What are their commitments to you?
Both women have a genuine commitment to supporting all mums who run their own business, or are starting up in business. With 7 children between them, and their own individual businesses, they are both acutely aware of the potential problems faced by mumpreneurs, and the support that is needed. They have put together their own personal experiences, as well as feedback given by other mumpreneurs and previous events attendees, to ensure that future events and the Mumpreneur UK website is not only fantastic fun, but provides the support and information necessary to move a business forward.
